ABOUT THE ARTIST

Terence L. Smith

Artist. Engineer. Observer.

Terence L. Smith is a self-taught artist whose creative journey began in Los Angeles during the social and cultural changes of the 1960s and 1970s. What began as a childhood means of escape developed into a lifelong practice of drawing and painting.

While building a successful career in aviation as an electrical engineer and later an executive with The Boeing Company, Smith continued creating privately, developing an extensive body of work known primarily to his family.

Today, he works across watercolor, pen and ink, acrylic, and mixed media, continually exploring color, form, pattern, and the human figure.

ARTISTIC PRACTICE

Exploring identity through color, form, and pattern

Smith’s work transforms the human figure through bold color, intricate pattern, geometric form, and abstraction. Faces and figures become constructions of shape and line—inviting the viewer to look beyond outward appearance and consider the complexity of identity, experience, and the inner self.

His practice is both intuitive and disciplined, reflecting the intersection of an artist’s imagination and an engineer’s attention to structure, detail, and design.
